Dacic expects Croatia to condemn Jasenovac incident

The incident in Jasenovac involving the flag that reads ‘For the homeland, ready’, which was the World War II-era Ustasha salute, is a situation without precedent in modern Europe and Croatia’s leadership is expected to condemn it, said Serbia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic on Sunday.

“Imagine if it is possible to have a banner that reads ‘Sieg heil!’ at commemorations in Auschwitz or Mauthausen. We expect the Croatia’s authorities to unconditionally condemn it and not to relativize the situation, which would actually mean relativization of crimes against the Serbs, Jews and Roma,” said Dacic.

Prior to the beginning of the Sunday commemoration at the Jasenovac memorial, news agencies published a photo of two men holding a flag which reads ‘For homeland, ready’.

Croatia’s police stated there was no report of the flag in question being seen in the Jasenovac area or the commemoration site.
