A mobile program used to inform users about the coronavirus developed by Croatian software company Infobip won an award by the global mobile industry association Mobile Ecosystem Forum (MEF) for the best product in the Covid-19 Mobile Response category.

Infobip, which is headquartered in Zagreb, London, and the town of Vodnjan, said in a press release on Thursday that the chatbot program, developed in cooperation with the globally popular messaging app WhatsApp, has enabled “transparent and timely communication” between health ministries and users in order to prevent the spread of false and incorrect information about the coronavirus.

Infobip’s product has since been introduced free of charge in more than 45 countries worldwide. It allows any user to quickly get verified and correct information on the coronavirus and the latest news on testing, or travel restrictions, via a WhatsApp chatbot.

Infobip’s chatbot for WhatsApp has been introduced by health authorities in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, India, Nigeria, as well as by the World Health Organisation’s regional office for Southeast Asia.

Close to five million people have used the chatbot so far and some 70 million messages between local health authorities and users have been exchanged during the pandemic.

MEF’s annual awards, called Meffys, are given to mobile communication companies for distinguished achievements in innovative technologies and business models.
