Deputy Prime Minister Tomo Medved, who is at the helm of the task force to deal with the aftermath of the 29 December earthquake that devastated central Croatia, said on Wednesday that the task force established three days ago had gained full insight into the developments on the ground.

More than 1,000 staffers of the relevant services are engaged in the quake-hit area at the moment, Medved said.

Currently, there are 91 members of the Civil Protection Authority, 530 firefighters, 84 members of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS), 186 police officers, 483 workers and volunteers of the Red Cross, 300 army service-people, 300 engineers and volunteers, he added.

The healthcare and first aid services have been re-established in the city of Glina, he said.

The task force is making efforts to provide residents in the said area with container homes.

In the course of the day, 30 container homes are expected to be dispatched from the northern Adriatic port city of Rijeka to the Sisak-Moslavina County, he added, reiterating that about 1,000 containers would be required for this purpose

He also insisted that all representatives of the local authorities were included in all processes necessary to address the aftermath of the devastating 6.2 quake.

Earlier on Wednesday, Petrinja Mayor Darinko Dumbovic criticised the task force for not inviting him to its meeting.

Dumbovic said that the task force had become an end in itself.

Responding to this criticism, Medved said that cooperation with the county prefect and local mayors “is of high quality”.

They have an opportunity to present us with all the essential issues bothering them, and we will continue working according to this model, Medved said.

Deputy Prime Minister Boris Milosevic, who is the deputy chairman of the task force, told N1 that after the task force held a coordinating meeting and a conference for the media in the course of the day, they would also meet local officials.
