The position of all EU member states is to remain united on the Ukraine situation and do everything to avert a conflict and aggression against Ukraine, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said in Brussels on Friday.
“The position of all is to maintain EU unity as well as EU-NATO unity and to support Ukraine, a sovereign country which we support,” he said in Brussels about an informal meeting of EU leaders on the Ukraine situation.
“It’s necessary to do everything, use every political and diplomatic channel to avert a conflict and a renewed aggression against Ukraine. It’s necessary to respect the principles of international law, to build good relations and avert conflicts, and the European policy in the days ahead will be in line with that,” Plenkovic said.
After the informal meeting, he attended a two-day EU-Africa summit. On Thursday, Plenkovic attended a panel on climate change, energy and connectivity, and today a panel on health, the fight against COVID-19 and the distribution of vaccines around the world.
The EU has pledged to donate 700 million vaccine doses to Africa by June, having donated 380 million to date. Croatia has donated 700,000 doses to date and decided today to donate another 550,000.
“In that way, we are contributing to the global fight against the pandemic,” Plenkovic said.
