A Zagreb County Court investigative judge has ordered custody for two nurses from the Dubrava hospital, suspected of stealing wallets, credit cards, jewellery and mobile phones from gravely ill patients.
The two nurses Dubravki L. and Mariji K. were remanded in custody for fear of repeating the crime, the state attorney’s office said.
Dubravka L. is suspected of taking money, bank cards and other valuable items from patients at the hospital in the period from 16 November 2020 to 19 February 2021, thus illegally gaining just over 26,000 kuna (€3,400). Police have reported that she had stolen jewelry from four patients in grave medical condition for later sale.
Marija K. is suspected of taking wallets from patients with banking cards in them and later used ATMs to steal more than 10,300 (€1,360).
Local media reported that Marija K. used stolen credit cards from a patient who had died in the meantime to purchase a pair of boots among other things. The patient’s son reported the theft.
The national chamber of nurses issued a statement on Thursday condemning the thievery allegedly committed by the two nurses.
