The European Commission (EC) is about to finish reviewing the answers Bosnia and Herzegovina has provided in the EC Questionnaire and will soon present its opinion on the country’s desired EU candidate status, the head of the EU mission in Bosnia, Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, said.

Wigemark, the Prime Minister of Republika Srpska (RS), Zeljka Cvijanovic, and the President of RS, Milorad Dodik, agreed at a meeting in Banja Luka that reforms in the RS are being implemented according to schedule and that their effects are already visible in macroeconomic data.

Bosnia and Herzegovina formally applied for EU membership in February 2016 and was to provide the answers to the 3,242 questions, concerning, among other topics, the economy, the rule of law, and policy, within six months.

However, it took the country a year to complete the process because of deep political and ethnic divisions that have plagued the country ever since the 1992-95 war.
