The 54-year-old man from the island of Pag who in February threw his four small children from the first-storey balcony of his house has been indicted with four counts of attempted murder.

Zadar County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman Dusko Berovic told the N1 broadcaster that prosecutors had asked that the man be kept in investigative custody because of the risk that he could repeat the crime and because of the gravity of the charges.

An expert testimony has shown that the man was not mentally incompetent at the time of the incident and will therefore be given an ordinary trial even though hearings will be held behind closed doors to protect the children’s interests.

The four children, who were hospitalised in Zadar and Zagreb after the tragic event, were in the meantime released from hospital and placed in an SOS children’s village with their mother.
