City of Sisak to set aside €500,000 for safe haven for women fleeing abuse

The city council in the central Croatian city of Sisak on Monday unanimously adopted a resolution declaring this city a safe haven for women, and the resolution also obliges the local authorities to build a shelter for abused and battered women and children.

Sisak Mayor Kristina Ikic-Banicek said that the town wants to provide assistance to victims of domestic violence, and the first step is to ensure 500,000 for building a safe home for victims fleeing abuse.

Also educational programmes about developing zero tolerance to domestic violence will be introduced in primary schools.

Councillors committed themselves to pursue policies that guarantee safety and security of women.
