The driver of the Kosovo-registered bus that crashed on the A3 motorway at Slavonski Brod early on Sunday morning has been detained in the eastern town of Pozega, and all ten persons killed in the accident "have been identified," the Slavonski Brod-Posavina County police said on Wednesday morning - although their identities have not been disclosed.
On Tuesday, the 52-year-old driver was interviewed by the investigating judge, who issued a 30-day remand order. The suspect was committed to prison in Pozega on the same day, the police said.
The bus, with 67 passengers and two drivers on board, was traveling en route from Frankfurt, Germany to Kosovo when it ran off the road and overturned at Slavonski Brod at 6.20 am on Sunday. Ten people were killed and 45 injured, including 15 who suffered serious injuries.
The police believe that the accident was caused by the driver because the bus veered off the carriageway into the grass strip and overturned. This offense carries a prison sentence of up to 15 years.
