Slovenia's Constitutional Court annuls government's ban on public assembly

Slovenia's Constitutional Court on Monday decided to annul government's ban on outdoor public gatherings, which the current cabinet led by Janez Jansa had imposed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Croatian state agency Hina reported.

Hina did not say when the ban had been enacted.
"A general ban on public rallies in a democracy is possible only if there is a real risk that such events can produce consequences detrimental to public well-being," said the court in its ruling.
The constitutional court judges concluded that public rallies outdoors could be allowed if they are organised in compliance with relevant anti-epidemic rules.
In April this year, the court had suspended the ban after it had received an application submitted by a group of citizens who questioned the constitutionality of the ban.
