Over the past 24 hours Slovenia has confirmed 998 new Covid cases with four hospitalized patients dying as a consequence of the contagion, and even though the number of new cases is below one thousand epidemiologists believe that the curve will continue to increase.
Scientists at the Jozef Stefan Institute have estimated that in the next ten days or so, Slovenia could enter into the dark red zone on the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) Covid map and exceed the 500 incidence rate. Currently, the incidence rate is 418 and Slovenia is still in the red zone.
Hospitals are currently receiving about 30 Covid patients a day, and in the next two weeks that number could double to 60 or more a day, Leon Cizelj from the institute said.
Scientists believe that by spring 2022, every citizen in the country will have come in contact with the Delta variant of the contagion.
About 44.1 percent of Slovenia’s population has been inoculated, the government reported on Friday.
There are currently 278 hospitalized Covid patients and 61 of them are in intensive care units.
