In February 2022 a total of 2,910 new passenger cars have been sold in Croatia, which is 15.3 percent down year-on-year, the Promocija Plus market research agency said on Monday.

Over the first two months of 2022, a total of 5,881 cars were sold, which is 7.4 down from the first two months of 2021. No explanation was given to explain the fall, either by the marketing agency or the state news agency which carried the agency’s press release.

During the first two months of 2022, Skoda was the most popular manufacturer with 733 cars sold, which accounted for 12.4 percent of the entire market. Volkswagen was second, with 588 new cars sold and a market share of 10.0 percent, and Korean carmaker Kia was third with 451 cars sold and a 7.6 percent market share.

As for individual models, Skoda’s opular sedan, Octavia, was the best selling model in February this year with 181 unit sold, followed by the SUV Jeep Compass (97) and Hyundai’s sub-compact SUV called Kona (84).

By type of fuel, 51.2 percent of sales were petrol-powered cars, followed by diesel cars which account for 21.5 percent of the market. Another 21.1 percent of sales were hybrids, and 3.5 percent were cars powered by natural gas. The purely electric-powered segment is still in its infancy in Croatia, with only 159 electric cars sold during this period, accounting for just 2.7 percent of total car sales.
